Air traffic is a very common method of shipping products, both internationally and across the United States. In order to ensure that your product makes it to its destination intact, it is wise to ensure that it will fare well in the face of vastly different altitudes. Our altitude testing services simulate dramatically different altitude profiles so you can have a clear understanding of how your product and its packaging will respond on its journey.
RMTS test facility has equipment to simulate climbing or descending altitude profiles from below sea level to 100,000 feet. The altitude chambers can also be used for rapid decompression test scenarios found in DO160 and Mil-Std 810 for aerospace and military applications.

Our Altitude Simulation Facility
Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions features altitude simulation testing services, a vital quality test for manufacturers of products that might be shipped via air.
Our temperature/altitude chambers simulate a combination of conditions seen below sea level up to 100,000 feet while cycling between hot and cold temperatures. For example, our team can conduct high altitude, temperature, and humidity simulations in one chamber, including DO-160 Icing testing. The same chamber can be used to simulate the rapid pressure change from 15,000 to 70,000 feet in 15 seconds with high-speed data compression for avionics cabin pressure testing.
RMTS can precisely simulate any real-life conditions a product might face and our test equipment allows for a wide range of altitude test profiles to be performed. With this knowledge in hand, manufacturers can be sure their products will arrive at their intended destinations in the proper condition.
Our temperature and temperature/altitude chambers are capable of producing conditions to meet the following testing standards:
- MIL-STD 810F method 500.4, 501.4, 502.4
- USCAR (United States Council for Automotive Research)
- RTCA/DO-160
- ASTM
- ISTA
- SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)
- EIA (Electronic Industries Alliance)
- JEDEC (Joint Electron Devices Engineering Council)
- JIC testing standards
- Customer specified
These are the lab capabilities of our specific altitude testing services:
- Temperature range: -94°F to +350°F (-70°C to +177°C)
- 5°C/min temperature change rate
- 100 feet below sea level up to 100,000 feet – high altitude
- Rapid decompression
RMTS will conduct your altitude testing project according to the exact requirements specified. We will consult with you on a customized climatic test program allowing for a very close approximation of the actual conditions facing your product. When testing is completed, you’ll receive a detailed report regarding logical layout, conclusions, and recommendations.
Beyond Air Travel
Flying freight is not the only scenario in which your product may experience fluctuations in altitude. Manufacturers of military equipment can take advantage of our altitude testing services. Altitude testing will help determine what atmospheric pressure products or packages can endure using today’s mixed-environment testing requirements. Defense, military, and aerospace applications can all benefit from our simulations where pressure and vacuum conditions are more intense than what we use for standard altitude monitoring.
Apart from commercial and military aerospace applications, our altitude testing services are also used for automotive tests to simulate rugged mountainous conditions, for testing computers, and for testing electronics and packaging materials that may be shipped via air freight.
Contact Rocky Mountain Testing Solutions if you’re ready to test now or if you need assistance in developing an altitude test specification.
